Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was injured in a car accident in the capital Kiiu, but was not seriously injured, AFP news agency reported on the 15th (local time).

“A car crashed into President Zelensky’s car and several escort vehicles in Kiiu,” Ukrainian presidential spokesman Sergi Nikiporov said in a Facebook post at 1:22 a.m. on the same day, AFP news agency reported.

Spokesperson Nikiporov added: “The doctor’s examination revealed no serious injuries to the president.”

A spokesperson who did not mention the exact time of the accident said that the investigation agency would investigate all circumstances surrounding the accident.

The driver of the crashed car was also given first aid and handed over to an ambulance, the spokesperson added.

A few minutes following the announcement of the accident, Archyde.com reported that President Zelensky’s video speech was released as usual in the presidential office.

President Zelensky said in a speech that he had just returned from the area around Kharkiv and had reclaimed most of the area following a counterattack to drive out Russian forces.

Earlier, Ukraine recaptured most of Eastern Kharkiv on the 11th, 200 days following the Russian invasion.

Initially, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the complete occupation of the eastern Donetsk region by the 15th, but the goal was not achieved and even the existing occupied territories might not be protected.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in a late-night video address on the 12th (local time), “So far this month, our fighters have liberated more than 6,000 square kilometers in southern and eastern Ukraine.

This means that the land equivalent to 10 times the area of Seoul (605㎢) was restored.

Earlier on the 11th, Ukrainian Army Commander-in-Chief Valery Zaluzni announced that the area recaptured this month was 3,000 square kilometers, but the size of the announcement doubled within one day.

Ukrainian military intelligence officials also said that a large number of Russian troops were declaring surrender in the recovery area. “Russian soldiers are well aware that the situation is hopeless,” an official from the authorities told The Associated Press.
