Xbox Live: Update: Discord Voice Chat now available on Xbox

You know that – happily in cross-play, but no way to chat properly. That should change now, because Microsoft is finally bringing Discord chat to the Xbox consoles.

Update:

The time has come! Microsoft has officially launched Discord voice chat support for all Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S users. Starting today, anyone on either console can connect directly to Discord Voice Chats to talk to their friends.

There’s a bit of work to be done: First, you’ll need to link your Xbox account to your Discord account – a process that you’ll have to repeat if you’ve done it before. With this step complete, the next thing you need to do is make sure you have the Xbox Mobile app installed on your phone and your console is linked to the app. A more detailed description can be found on the Discord-Website.

But it was regarding time. Microsoft announced todayannounced that Discord Voice Chat is now coming to Xbox consoles – both Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S. In the future you will be able to chat with others via Discord directly from your console, which is certainly an extreme relief, especially when it comes to cross-play with other platforms.

The corresponding update will be delivered starting today as part of the Xbox Insider program, but should be available to everyone in the coming weeks. You can set it up very easily by connecting your Discord and Xbox accounts via the apps or via QR code. Once your Discord account is linked to the Xbox, you can use Discord to go to a channel you want to talk to as usual.

While playing on your console you can see who is in the conversation and speaking. You can also adjust the audio and switch between Discord Voice and Xbox Game Chat. Although you might previously connect Xbox and Discord accounts, the features were extremely limited. The fact that voice chat is finally coming on board is certainly a welcome addition.
