In the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class, which is a high-end foreign car, the phenomenon that the engine turns off while driving is repeated.
The domestic Mercedes-Benz dealer did not exchange the car even though the defect was repeated, or even asked for an additional cost of tens of millions of won.

In June of last year, Park Hyo-geun bought a Mercedes-Benz S580, the highest-end model.
It’s been less than a month since it was shipped, but the engine shut off phenomenon started to occur frequently.

After several inspections, the cause might not be found, and in the end, it was determined that the repair might not be done.
However, conditions were attached.
In consideration of depreciation and depreciation during the operation period, an additional cost of KRW 27 million is to be paid.
I mightn’t even get a car, and I only paid 7 months’ worth of installments and insurance.

Mercedes-Benz dealerships aren’t the only ones selling guts.
It is the position that the vehicle cannot be replaced even though the ignition has been turned off repeatedly in another S580 vehicle.

The so-called ‘Korean Lemon Law’, which requires manufacturers to exchange or refund if a car is defective, has been in effect since 2019.
However, it is not easy to receive compensation properly because there is no enforcement and there is no specification regarding the exchange method.
[하종선 / 차량 전문 변호사 : 규정이 없다 보니까 자동차 제조사에서 자꾸 그러한 공제를 요구하고, (소비자들은) 약자인 입장이고 차가 빨리 필요하니까 울며 겨자 먹기 식으로 (받아들일 수밖에 없는 구조입니다.)]
Mercedes-Benz Korea explained that it is proceeding with exchange and refund procedures in accordance with internal regulations in accordance with the arbitration regulations set by the Automobile Safety and Deliberation Committee.
More fundamentally, it is pointed out that the structure in which the sales agency is in charge of the following-sales service itself is a problem.
