Haifa, a Parisian nightmare

After their 2-1 victory at the Parc des Princes over Juventus in the top of their group, Paris are on the road to Maccabi Haifa. The Israeli club is far from being a good memory for the Ile-de-France club. They won the only meeting between the two teams, in the first round of the 1998/99 UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup.

The two goals of the first leg in Paris were scored late in the game, Marco Simone’s penalty in the 84e minute for the French being annihilated two minutes later by the equalizer of Yossi Benayoun. After a scoreless first half in Haifa, Adoram Keisi gave the Israelis the lead in the 59theminute, which was erased 14 minutes later by Nicolas Ouédec. Alon Mizrahi restored Haifa’s lead in the 78eminute and, although Jay-Jay Okocha equalized with three minutes remaining, Mizrahi struck once more in the 90e minute to provide a memorable qualification for the Israeli team. Haifa lost 2-0 to Benfica on Matchday 1.

Haaland welcomes Dortmund to Manchester

Lewandowski is not the only star of European football who will find his former club on this second day. Erling Haaland left Dortmund in May for Manchester City. The Norwegian giant had scored 86 goals in 89 appearances for the Ruhr club. His two goals in J1 have taken his City tally to 12 goals already as he faces his former teammates.

However, the BVB is a club that knows how to live without its strong men following seeing players like Lewandowski, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang or Ousmane Dembélé leave. After starting with a 3-0 win once morest Copenhagen, Edin Terzić’s side will look to continue that momentum, despite Haaland.
