Poignant post. Princess Elisabeth paid a public tribute to Elizabeth II on behalf of the Belgian royal family on September 12. The 20-year-old future queen was given the responsibility of signing a book of condolences located at the residence of the country’s British ambassador.
It is in the language of Shakespeare that the Oxford University student wrote with tact, respect and emotion. “Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has been a role model and inspiration to many of us of all ages,” wrote the daughter of King Philipe and Queen Mathilde. “I join the millions of people around the world who mourn an extraordinary personality, whose example has had a profound impact on younger generations. May his soul rest in peace”, she continued.
The Duchess of Brabant also wished to address her “sincere condolences to the royal family and people of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth realms” on behalf of his parents. The Palace has shared some photos of this special day on the official Instagram account of the royal family.
