Activists on Facebook shared photos and videos of monkeys wandering between houses in a residential suburb in Ismailia Governorate.
In the circulating video, two monkeys of the species of monkeys jumped on the balconies of the houses amid the fear of the people that they would be harmed by the animal, in the village of Nafeisheh, and another video recorded by a surveillance camera appeared in which two monkeys climbed on the main gas pipes of one of the houses, while the street was clear of pedestrians in the morning.
Followers said in the comments that the monkeys began appearing regarding a week ago, moving from one place to another in the village, and climbing on the pipes to reach the balconies of houses in search of food, while one of the citizens commented and stated that monkeys appear north of the village near the Ebad al-Rahman mosque.
The people informed the Directorate of Veterinary Medicine to deal with the monkeys and catch them, amid assurances from the citizens that they fled from their owner and lost their way back later.
There are many shops selling ornamental fish, birds and robots in Ismailia Governorate, and some of them offer monkeys for sale, and their price ranges from 3500 to 6 thousand pounds, depending on their age.
As for free monkeys, it is not the first time that citizens have observed these monkeys moving between houses, as it was reported that monkeys were monitored several months ago, frequenting residential units in the city center.
Last May, a monkey ran away from its owner following losing control of it. He attacked a 19-year-old tuk-tuk driver, two children and a one-year-old baby, in the village of Manayef, in the center and city of Abu Sweir.
