Remco Evenepoel was crowned champion of the Tour of Spain 2022 of men’s road cycling following the last stage this Sunday, September 11, in which the Colombian won Juan Sebastian Molano.
But Evenepoel was not the only outstanding cyclist in the last Grand Tour of the season, since two Spanish cyclists completed the podium, Enrique Mas y Juan Ayuso; and the Ecuadorian and current Olympic champion, Richard Carapazwon the mountain jersey.

The Spanish: Enric Mas, runner-up
The Spanish Enrique Mas (Movistar Team) arrived at the Vuelta a España 2022 as one of the big favorites, following having been runner-up in this big event on two occasions (2018 and 2021). This time he was back on the podium, finishing in second position, 2 minutes and 2 seconds behind Evenepoel.
With this, of his five participations in the Vuelta, he has finished as runner-up in three of them.
In addition, Enric Mas has been the third best cyclist in the mountains and was chosen as the most combative cyclist.
He has not been the only Spaniard on the podium of the 2022 edition, since John Ayuso (UAE Team Emirates) was third, 4 minutes and 57 seconds behind Evenepoel. Ayuso, moreover, has been the second best youngster in the Vuelta, precisely behind the Belgian, and has achieved the general team victory together with the Emirates.

Latinos: great performances by Carapaz and Miguel Ángel López
Richard Carapaz He was the only Latino to win a jersey in the Vuelta a España 2022, winning the mountain jersey following scoring 73 points. He did it convincingly, since he was followed in the mountain ranking by the Australian Robert Stannard, with 36 points; and Enric Mas, with 28.
To achieve this, the current Olympic champion won three stage victories, all of them with a high finish: stage 12 in Peñas Blancas, stage 14 in Sierra de La Pandera and stage 20 in Puerto de Navacerrada.
“Until the last day it has been a very well-fought Vuelta. The truth is that we are leaving very happy: a jersey, three stages, not bad for me. I am leaving super happy with such a special and different Vuelta. You leave with enthusiasm to come back another year and do it once more”, he expressed following the end of the Vuelta.
In general, the Ecuadorian finished in 14th position.
For his part, the best Latino in the general classification of the Vuelta 2022 was the Colombian Miguel Angel Lopez (Astana). He was fourth, finishing the great Spanish one minute from the podium. Although this year he has not signed any stage victory (he achieved one in 2021), he has returned to enter among the best and most constant cyclists of the great Spanish, in which he achieved third place in 2018 and in which he was the best young a year before.
your countryman Rigoberto Uran, silver medalist at the 2012 London Olympics, also entered the top 10 of the 2022 Vuelta a España; a great one in which she has smiled once more following a complicated season with two injuries.
