While testing magnetic levitation technology for use in vehicles in China, a 2.8-ton vehicle capable of “floating” 35 mm above the surface of a highway was successfully tested. According to the Xinhua news agency, the experiment took place in Jiangsu province in the east of the country.
Developed by Southwestern Jiaotong University in Chengdu, the car is a modernized classic car. To ensure levitation, a chain of permanent magnets was installed, in addition, the road was equipped with a special conductive line to ensure the effect of levitation.
According to Professor Deng Zigang, maglev technology will receive increased attention as it is hoped that in the future it will save energy and increase the available range of cars.
On the same day, another road test was carried out at a speed of 200 km / h. Eight cars were tested on the 7.9-kilometer section, including five on new energy sources, the maximum speed was approaching 230 km / h.
It is known that the tests are organized by the provincial authorities and are designed to evaluate the possible design of future roads and safety measures when driving at high speeds.
