New York: Poland’s women’s world number one Iga Swiatek of the US Open Tennis Grand Slam winner. Iga won the title by defeating Ons Jabiur of Tunisia. Score: 6-2, 7-6 (7/5).
This is Iga’s second Grand Slam title of the season. The Polish player also won the French Open held in June. The star also won 37 consecutive matches. This is Iga’s third Grand Slam win, including two French Opens. First career US and the Open title. It is also Iga’s first title on hard court.
U.S. 21-year-old Iga also became the first Polish woman to win the Open title. She is also the first woman since Serena Williams to win the French Open and US Open titles in the same year. Serena’s achievement was in 2013. Sviatek entered the final by defeating sixth seed Aryana Sabalanka of Belarus in two sets to one.
