The Moroccan Presidency of the Peace and Security Council (PSC) of the African Union (AU) for the month of October was the focus of a meeting, Thursday in Addis Ababa, between the Ambassador Permanent Representative of the Kingdom to the AU and ECA-UN, Mohamed Arrouchi, and the Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security of the AU, Bankole Adeoye.
During this interview, the exchange focused on the preparations and the program of the Moroccan Presidency of the PSC of the AU for next October.
Morocco, it is recalled, was elected a member of the AU PSC for a second term of three years 2022-2025 following that of 2018-2020. This election for this three-year term testifies to Morocco’s key and historic role in maintaining peace and security in Africa and illustrates the confidence enjoyed by the Kingdom within the Pan-African organization.
Morocco, which sat on the AU PSC for a two-year term 2018-2020 during which the Kingdom contributed constructively to improving working methods and establishing good practices, also chaired September 2019 this decision-making body of the pan-African organization.
The presidency by the Kingdom of the AU PSC for the month of September of the year 2019, was rich in actions in terms of peace, security, development and the fight once morest climate change.
The mandate of the Moroccan Chairmanship of the PSC had been marked by the adoption of important resolutions, in particular the lifting of the suspension of Sudan from all activities of the African Union, the holding of the ministerial session of the PSC in New York, the session on the interaction between the African Union PSC and the AU Commission, and the important meeting on climate change and its impact on island states in Africa.
