Earthquake 7.7 in Papua New Guinea: Shoa rules out tsunami threat on Chilean coasts

This Saturday followingnoon, the National Emergency Office of the Ministry of the Interior (Onemi) reported that the Hydrographic and Oceanographic Service of the Chilean Navy (Shoa) monitors the possible effects on the Chilean coast following a major earthquake in Papua New Guinea.

As reported, on the island there was a magnitude 7.7 earthquake Therefore, the authorities are analyzing the situation, if such a movement would affect the variation of the tide on the Chilean coast.

In this regard, Onemi reported through its Twitter account that “Once the modeling and analysis process is finished, the possibility of a tsunami threat to the coasts of Chile will be reported.”, which with the passing of minutes was ruled out by the same body.
