the president of the transition castigates the withdrawal of the religious

Chad’s transitional president, General Mahamat Idriss Deby, called the withdrawal of clerics from the inclusive and sovereign national dialogue a dangerous stance.

Déby was speaking in an interview with national radio and television on Saturday.

“As far as the religious are concerned, they are men of God. We are in a secular Republic. Their role is not to play politics, it is to guide us, to advise us. But don’t take one part and leave the other. What is happening is very dangerous. I would therefore like to call on religious leaders to take responsibility, to preach peace, to preach unity,” insisted the Chadian president.

According to General Mahamat Idriss Deby, it was this position that led Chad to the civil war of 1979, this conflict which deeply divided Muslim northerners and southern Christians.

On Saturday, the Chadian president also urged the political parties and politico-military groups not signatories to the Doha agreement who boycotted the meetings of the national dialogue, to return to the negotiating table “to draw together the future” of the Chad.

Chad’s transitional president also regretted the incidents last Friday following clashes between supporters of the Les Transformateurs party and the police.

“But beyond all that, there is also the law that must be respected. As a party leader who aspires to one day become president, the least you can do is respond to the summons of justice. But if, instead of going to the convocation, he mobilizes innocent people, it is a way of not respecting justice. It is also a way of creating disturbances to public order, ”he reproached him.

On Friday, the leader of the political party Les Transformateurs, Succès Masra, should respond to a summons from the prosecutor of the Ndjamena High Court.

Thousands of his supporters came out to accompany him to court. Security forces intervened to disperse these activists who took refuge at the party headquarters. Chadian justice has issued another summons for Monday, September 12 to the opponent Masra.

“This Monday, September 12, I will leave at 7 a.m. from the headquarters of the Transformers, which they attacked, to respond to their summons without purpose indicated to the court, because the summons has been postponed for this Monday, September 12 at 8 a.m. following their armed forces compelled to return to headquarters. If they are in good faith, they have the time to take measures to supervise all those who, spontaneously, come to accompany us there by marching and singing justice, equality. Unless they are afraid of the people, ”said Success Masra on Facebook on Sunday.

It should be remembered that the national dialogue which began on August 20 in N’Djamena is boycotted by Les Transformateurs as well as certain politico-military groups that are not signatories to the Doha peace agreement.

The Catholic Church as well as the Protestants announced last week the suspension of their participation in these meetings.
