Pranks are a thing in Saudi; Legal experts may have to collect crores of fines

Make a scene and prank videos are becoming more and more popular. While the main objective of prank videos is to make everyone laugh and happy, sometimes the job fails. In this context, the words of the legal expert explaining that this kind of pranking is a crime in Saudi Arabia and that pranking can be punished with a huge fine and imprisonment are getting attention. Lawyer Dr Majeed Ghafoor explained that under Saudi Arabia’s cyber law, vloggers can face up to three years in prison or a fine of up to $1.3 million if pranking goes too far. His response was through Saudi Television Al Saud.

Dr Majeed Ghafoor said that in some cases, even the age of the accused does not help to get the sentence reduced. Even if it is a consensual prank video, posting such videos on social media is a crime. The law criminalizes liking and sharing prank videos. He added that Saudi Arabia does not in any way encourage such videos, which are shot by teenagers, youths and children to become famous very quickly.
