The Russian Embassy in London wrote on Twitter that President Vladimir Putin had congratulated Britain’s new King Charles III on his accession to the throne.

In a statement, Putin said that Queen Elizabeth II “enjoyed the love and respect of her subjects, as well as power on the world stage,” adding: “The most important events in the modern history of the United Kingdom are closely linked to the name of Her Majesty.”

“I wish you courage and perseverance in the face of this huge and irreparable loss,” the Russian President, King Charles III, addressed, adding: “I ask you to convey words of sincere sympathy and support to the members of the royal family and all the people of Great Britain.”

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced on Friday that Russian President Vladimir Putin would not attend the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.
Peskov said that although “the Russians respected her for her wisdom”, Putin’s attendance at the Queen’s funeral was “not on the cards”.
