Yes, there is not much time left before discovering Pokémon Scarlet | Violet, ninth generation of the pocket monsters. First for the main series: it will be an open world, in the line of Legends Arceus released at the beginning of 2022. Admittedly, the technique with vast expanses is still not the strong point of Game Freak but the adventure calls once once more .

Pokémon has a kind of voodoo magic. Able to breathe extra soul and strength into almost anything, not to mention nostalgia! This is why I have always taken pleasure in strolling through the (admittedly empty) areas of Arceus Legends, to discover which pocket monster hides behind which hill. With its open world, the next Pokemon Scarlet | Purple inspire me the same sense of adventure and escape, despite flaws that are already obvious, including graphics. Technique is not everything.
Everything for freedom
Adventure is often synonymous with freedom, and this ninth generation will put both feet in the dish. In the wake of the last Pokémon Legends Arceus (admittedly open game but divided into several areas with a fairly linear sequence) Scarlet | Violet seems to be taking a step forward, obviously with a real open world and above all a rather special structure. Here, Game Freak promises three independent frames moreover presented in the brand new trailer : Stardust Lenswhich consists of facing the various rebel groups of Team Star, the new antagonist of this episode; The Spice Hunt secret, rare resource guarded by Dominant Pokémon; and of course, the leaguewhich will challenge us once morest eight champions.
For the moment, we don’t know if a common thread will come to make the link between all this or if the player will just be “dropped” in the new region of Paldea. Obviously, it is the second case that awaits us. Remember that there will also be no order for the arenas of the League – which creates quite a few questions regarding the level of experience required by these. The player can chart his course as he sees fit to champion status. Everything therefore suggests that this Scarlet Pokémon | Violet will opt for a philosophy Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wildwith mounts of legendary creatures that can swim, fly and also climb.

I don’t know regarding you, but I find this prospect rather heartening. Moreover, Game Freak introduces this freedom with an extracurricular project organized by the Academy of your hero (Orange or Raisin according to your version). A “Treasure Hunt” with a simple goal, as can be read on the Scarlet website | Violet: “explore the universe of the game and go to search for your own treasure”. All with, of course, Pokémon on the way, dangers (the exact number of Team Star camps is not yet known) and – we hope – mysteries to solve.
This was one of the shortcomings of Arceus Legends: open areas with certainly Pokémon but almost no points of interest. I’d like to believe Game Freak learned the lesson for Scarlet | Purple. Because walking around in an open world with three different plots is good, but it can quickly get boring, even if the pocket monsters act as a kind of “living points of interest” that can often restart exploration. On the sidelines of multiplayer raids, the power of teracrystallization, I hope Game Freak has more surprises in store. Because with a well-constructed open world and Pokémon, we might have a great adventure.
