TEHRAN, Sept. 10, 2022 (Xinhua) Iran on Saturday condemned the new US sanctions once morest the country’s Intelligence Ministry, which was accused of launching an alleged cyber attack on Albania.
“These new sanctions, similar to the previous illegal US sanctions once morest the Ministry of Intelligence, will never be able to frustrate the resolve of the security forces to protect the Iranian people,” said Naser Kanaani, a spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry in a statement.
The US Treasury on Friday imposed sanctions on Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence and its Minister, Ismail Khatib, citing alleged cyber attacks launched by Tehran once morest the Albanian government in July.
Albania cut diplomatic ties with Iran on Wednesday. The United States supported Albania’s move and pledged to take action in response to the alleged attack once morest its NATO ally.
Kanaani said that Washington is “the author of this scenario” and Tirana is just a victim of Washington’s plot.
