The story is going to be written well. Forty-four years following the last Belgian success in the Grand Tour, Remco Evenepoel will win the Vuelta 2022. The red jersey held firm in this 20th and penultimate stage, returned to Richard Carapaz (INEOS Grenadiers), ultimate resistant of the breakaway day to afford a third success in this Vuelta. The Belgian from QuickStep-AlphaVinyl was finally attacked only once by Enric Mas (Movistar), unable to win the red jersey which still has a 2’05” lead before the Madrid stage. Barring an extra-sporting incident, he will win his first Grand Tour on Sunday, at just 22 years old.
