Preparations are underway for the burial of Queen Elizabeth II, following she passed away, Thursday, at the age of 96, with the body of her late husband, Prince Philip, to be transferred to join her, to be buried together at St George VI Memorial Chapel in Windsor Castle.

The Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philip, and Queen Elizabeth’s husband, died at the age of 99 in April last year, and was buried at the Royal Vault, below St George’s Chapel, where many members of the royal family are buried.

British media reported that Queen Elizabeth will meet once more with her late husband, Prince Philip, and will be buried side by side, following the longest marriage for a British king, which lasted more than 73 years.

Several members of the royal family are buried at St George VI Memorial Chapel, including Queen Elizabeth’s father, who died in 1952, Queen Elizabeth the mother, who died in 2002, as well as her sister, Princess Margaret, who also died in 2002.

Queen Elizabeth II passed away at the Morale, the Queen’s Scottish country retreat. The coffin is expected to be moved to Holyrood House in Edinburgh, the official residence of the British monarch in Scotland.

It is likely that the coffin will then be carried in a solemn procession to St Giles’ Cathedral in Edinburgh before being transported to London.

The Queen will remain in Westminster Hall for approximately 4 days, following her return to London and before her funeral, where the British people can look at her farewell, write condolences and lay flowers.

Under the hall’s 11th century wooden ceiling, the queen’s coffin is expected to be placed on a special platform known as a cataval, with the corners of the platform guarded by soldiers from units serving the royal family.

The day of the funeral begins with the transfer of the Queen’s coffin from Westminster Hall to Westminster Abbey in a chariot known as the Royal Navy’s Venice Cart.

The Queen’s coffin will then make its final journey on the followingnoon of the funeral, to St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.

The royal family chooses St. George’s Chapel for weddings, baptisms and funerals, where it witnessed the marriage of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, as well as the funeral of the late Queen’s husband Prince Philip.
