Russia has invaded Ukraine with its superior military power, but it has not progressed smoothly. At a time when the war situation in the Russian military has deteriorated sharply, Russia and China and other pro-Russian countries are conducting the “Oriental-2022” strategic military exercise. The Russian Ministry of Defense recently admitted that the purpose of the exercise is to further deepen cooperation and solidarity with China and to contain the United States and Japan. The two countries also said on the 9th that the military exercise project will practice “counterattack once morest aggression”.
According to the Russian Satellite News Agency, Russian Deputy Defense Minister Aleksandr Fomin said at a summary meeting for foreign military attaches: “During the Eastern 2022 strategic command exercise, the group army practiced the project of ‘counter-attacking aggression’.” And pointed out: “The exercise is divided into two stages. In the first stage, officers and soldiers participating in the exercise made clear their decision to send troops to carry out strategic actions, issued tasks, and formulated action plans. In the second stage, during the exercise of countering aggression and territorial recovery projects, they mastered the issue of force management.”
Fomin continued to point out that during the exercise, national borders and the formation of army groups from both camps were also assumed. He mentioned that a total of 50,000 people, 140 aircraft and 5,000 military equipment and 60 warships were dispatched to participate in the exercise. The Collective Security Treaty Organization, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and other countries also sent 2,000 people to participate in the exercise. The participating officers and soldiers were trained in force management in response to air strikes, joint fires, and tactical paratrooper landing operations.
It is understood that the “Oriental-2022” joint military exercise is one of Russia’s four major strategic exercises. The exercise has more than 50,000 troops and includes more than 5,000 weapons and military equipment, 140 aircraft and 60 ships. In addition to Russia, officers and soldiers from 14 countries including Azerbaijan, Algeria, Armenia, Belarus, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Laos, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nicaragua, Syria and Tajikistan also participated in the “Oriental-2022” exercise .
