Twitter users across the United States reported outages on the platform on Thursday due to the social media frenzy over the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
The Downdetector site, which reports outages of websites experiencing problems, documented more than 2,600 outage reports on Thursday followingnoon just following the announcement of the death of the British sovereign.
Downdetector says it only flags an incident when the number of outages is significantly higher than the normal volume for that time of day.
More than 80% of the reports received by Downdetector concerned Twitter.

The number of reported outages quickly fell to around 250 or less Thursday evening.
