A 65-year-old man was crushed to death by a tree this followingnoon in Saint-Mathieu-de-Rioux, near Trois-Pistoles, in Bas-Saint-Laurent.
The spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), Stéphane Tremblay, confirms that the call to emergency services was made around 1:45 p.m.
“The police received a call for a man found unconscious under a tree in the sector of 4e Rank in Saint-Mathieu-de-Rioux. The man was found dead at the scene,” he said.
Investigators were called to the scene to shed light on the circumstances surrounding the death of the man, who was on land that was not his place of residence.
“The hypothesis of the accidental cause is the most probable at this stage of the investigation”, mentions the SQ.
According to initial information, the Commission for Standards, Equity, Health and Safety at Work was not requested on site.
