Therapist Abakumov told how to take the temperature if there is no thermometer at hand

– Was it like when you feel a high temperature, and your electronic friend shows 37.2? It is dangerous, because if the temperature is not brought down in time, intoxication of the body will begin. In order for an electronic thermometer to show a real figure, you need to hold it for at least five minutes. And for children under 3 years old, it is generally better to measure the temperature rectally (yes, through the anus). It is unlikely that they will thank you, but at least you will know the exact result, says Oleg Abakumov.

There is a proven method that will help you know for sure if your temperature has risen. It is suitable for both children and adults. You need to measure your pulse. That is, set a timer for 60 seconds, put your fingers on the wrist of the sick person and count how many “shocks” will be made during this period.

An increase in temperature by 1 degree is equal to plus 10 beats per minute. That is, if you counted that the sick person has 20 more strokes, feel free to add 2 degrees. And this is already 38, a rather serious indicator, – explains Oleg Abakumov.

  • In adults and children over 10 years of age the norm is 60-80 beats per minute. A pulse of 90 can indicate a temperature of 37.5, and 100 – 38.5. Simple arithmetic;

  • Preschoolers norm up to 120;

  • In children from one to two years – up to 130;

  • Babies up to a year — up to 160.
