A few days before the September 7 keynote, it had already released an ad in which it presents some characteristics of two of its flagships: the Galaxy S22 Ultra, as well as the Galaxy Z Flip 4. At the end of this ad, Samsung indicates that the innovations present on these two devices (the camera of the S22 Ultra and the folding format of the Z Flip 4) will not arrive on the iPhone.
Then, on September 7, the company released a new ad. This time around, the video features an iPhone user called Elena who, following discovering the folding form factor of the Galaxy Z Flip 4, becomes obsessed with the device. While she had sworn not to change brands, at the end of the video, she ends up changing sides.

Samsung betting on folding smartphones
The video of Galaxy Z Flip 4 highlights the folding clamshell format of this device, while recalling that for the moment, Apple has still not released folding smartphones. Samsung, for its part, has decided to make this format its new trademark.
And while folding smartphones had a slow start in 2019, today they are finally democratizing. In 2021, Samsung shipped 10 million folding smartphones worldwide.
“This is an industry increase of over 300% from 2020, and I predict this rapid growth will continue. We come at a time when these foldable devices are going mainstream and claiming a bigger place in the overall smartphone market.”said TM Roh, the head of Samsung’s mobile division, in a press release in July.
For the moment, everything suggests that Samsung’s new folding smartphones, the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and the Galaxy Z Fold 4, will also be a hit, despite the macroeconomic conditions (high-end products are less affected by inflation) .
In France, the Korean giant evokes record pre-order levels. Twice as many Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Galaxy Z Fold 4 have been sold for pre-order in France this year as Z Flip 3 and Z Fold 3 during the pre-order period for these two models, the last year.
“After creating the foldable smartphone category in 2019, we are delighted to see that consumers have embraced this new format to improve their daily lives and rethink their use of smartphones. Otherwise, it should be noted that currently, rumors are already circulating regarding the future folding iPhone or iPad. However, it seems that Apple is in no rush to embrace foldable displays.
