The inhabitants of a town in the Somme will finally benefit from the Free Mobile network. This is the end of extremely limited 3G speeds on the Orange pylon for the subscribers concerned. But also the possibility of finally surfing in 4G.
On time or Free Mobile and Orange wish to extend their 2G and 3G roaming contract, many are wondering regarding the relevance of this new amendment currently being examined by Arcep. According to the regulator, the subscribers of the ex-troublemaker still benefit from the Orange network on 6% of the territory, with speeds restricted to 384 kb / s. This is the case in Crécy-en-Ponthieu, a town located in the Somme department in Hauts-de-France. Until now, the operator went through the network of its rival and partner, but this will soon no longer be the case. The municipal council voted on June 14 to sign an agreement with Free Mobile around the installation of its first antenna, enough to take its independence thanks to the installation of its own network. With a height of 30m, this pylon will radiate the operator’s 3G and 4G over a perimeter of 2.5 to 3 kilometers. Enough to also cover another underserved municipality nearby.
The municipality will receive an annual rent of €3,000 for 12 years. The work will begin soon in an area far enough from the last dwellings “At the moment, everything is validated for the start of the work. They should intervene fairly quickly once the electrical connection is made by the company Enedis, ”says the municipality. With regard to the preliminary work, Free will cover all the costs, which amount to nearly 50,000 euros.
