Göttingen triathlete Felix Buck-Gramcko still hopes for the Ironman in Hawaii
Göttingen. Triathlete Felix Buck-Gramcko from Göttingen is still hoping to take part in the Ironman in Hawaii, the annual world triathlon championships taking place from October 6th to 8th. Because the costs for a student are immense and amount to around 20,000 euros, Buck-Gramcko has started a crowdfunding campaign and has already – as of Wednesday – collected 2411 euros.

The 25-year-old qualified for the World Cup at the Ironman competition in Maastricht, Netherlands, in early August. With a total time of 9:25:41 hours, he finished sixth in his age group and was 18th overall. It was the first Ironman of the Göttinger in his career.
Due to the corona pandemic, the World Cup has already had to be postponed twice. The number of participants is correspondingly high this year, and many accommodations are already fully booked. Together with the flights and the entry fee, this amounts to around 20,000 euros.

In the Ironman, athletes have to swim 3.8 kilometers, cycle 180 kilometers and finish with a marathon. However, because the Ironman is a niche sport, there is generally a lack of sponsorship and the triathletes have to finance their participation in the competitions entirely themselves.
