Argentina formally requested China to join the BRICS group. According to what the Argentine ambassador to China, Sabino Vaca Narvaja, said on Wednesday, President Alberto Fernández sent a letter last week to his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, in his capacity as pro tempore president of the regional forum, to request the inclusion of Argentina. to the bloc of countries that make up Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.

“The Argentine government has a clear position regarding the BRICS. For us, the group, is an excellent alternative for cooperation in the face of a world order that has proven to be created by and for the benefit of a few. I am convinced that we are facing a historic opportunity to consider the development of a true joint strategy between our countries to face this complex global scenario”affirmed the ambassador during a speech at the BRICS forum that took place in the city of Xiamen.

BRICS members see Argentina as a leading country in food production and with enormous potential for the transition to clean energy sources.

Argentina has already obtained the support of several BRICS countries
Already in early July, the Chinese government confirmed its support for the incorporation of Argentina to the BRICS. In August it was the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation who informed that Argentina had been formally included in the list to enter the select group.

Likewise, the Argentine Foreign Ministry announced last week that the Indian Foreign Minister had expressed his country’s full support for the inclusion of Argentina in this group.

Last June, Alberto Fernández participated virtually in the summit of BRICS leaders and described the group as the “greater economic and political influence globally”.

The BRICS represent almost half of the global population and contributed 50% to the growth of the world’s gross product in the last year. They add abundant natural resources such as hydrocarbons, gas, strategic minerals and are large food producers.

Argentina also began the process of formal incorporation into the New BRICS Development Bank (NDB) and joins countries such as the United Arab Emirates, Uruguay and Bangladesh that have already joined.
