Ming-Chi Kuo predicts few big news for future 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pros

It’s understood, we’re going to talk a lot regarding iPhone and Apple Watch today, but that’s no reason to shun the Mac. Unfortunately, Ming-Chi Kuo tells us bad news: Apple would have reduced orders for the new 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pros with M2 chip by 20 to 30%. The production of these laptops should begin in the last quarter of the year.

As explains it the TF Securities analyst, it is not common for the manufacturer to reduce its order volume before the biggest sales season of the year, or before the launch of mass production of a new product. This means that Apple expects less demand than expected, for two reasons: the economic recession and the decline in demand for teleworkers.

According to Kuo, these two reasons — which also explain the improved delivery times of current models — will be felt for at least 6 to 9 months. Moreover, in terms of new features, these machines should “only” offer M2 chips (M2 Pro and M2 Max, no doubt), Apple having completely revised the design of this range last year by adding additional ports and a mini-LED screen (and a notch). The interest will necessarily be less strong for these new laptops.

In total, Ming-Chi Kuo estimates that MacBook Pro shipments in the fourth quarter will be reduced by 15 to 20%, and by 10 to 15% for the whole of 2022.
