[周刊王CTWANT] California has been hit by a heat wave, soaring temperatures, and the expansion of wildfires may endanger power generation equipment and lines, putting the state’s power grid under great pressure. California officials have warned that the risk of power outages has increased significantly in recent days, and they have not ruled out rolling out power outages to deal with emergencies.
Elliot Mainzer, chief executive of the California Power Dispatch Center (ISO), which manages the power grid, warned on the 5th that California’s power deficit is as high as 2,000 to 4,000 megawatts (MW), equivalent to 10% of normal electricity demand.
“We are now entering the worst phase of this heat wave,” Mainz said. “Demand for electricity is likely to rise to an all-time high on Monday and Tuesday, leading to increased chances of rolling blackouts.”
ISO has repeatedly called on the public and enterprises to save electricity, and it is even more frank that everyone must increase the electricity saving by two to two to three times, so as to avoid the occurrence of power outages.
