This new edition is compiled according to the four available manuscripts of the work (Morgan Library New York City) as well as the’essential manuscript of the orchestral sketches which belonged to the conductor Roger Désormièreand which now appears in the collection of the National Library of France.
Moreover, thestudy of scores by great conductors as Charles Munch, Roger Desormiere or Pierre Boulezas well as the “historical” material of the Library of the Lamoureux Orchestra were able to bring precious elements concerning the corrections and modifications to be made to the first edition of 1921.
Under the editorial direction of François Druthe reading committee for this 2022 edition brings together the composer Benjamin Attahir and the chiefs Cristian Macelaru et John Wilsonas well as musicians of the National Orchestra of Franceformation closely related since its inception at Ravel’s music with chefs Désiré-Emile Inghelbrecht, Roger Désormière, Manuel Rosenthal, André Cluytens, Lorin Maazel, Sergiu Celibidache, Leonard Bernstein, Charles Dutoit…
The project Ravel Edition
Launched in September 2018, the Ravel Edition combines musicological and artistic expertise in an original and innovative scientific approach. In addition to the work of musicologists on the manuscripts and the sources, performers – renowned musicians on this repertoire – make up a reading committee which brings its knowledge and experience to the questions raised by the analysis of the sources. Revised editions of the Ravel Edition are currently played by over 60 orchestras in 14 countries around the world.
