After watching the game Pep Guardiola said in an interview regarding Akanyi’s performance: “We are very pleased, he only trained with us for a day and a half.”
“He showed at Dortmund that he has experience with European football, added a very good central defender for us. Quite similar to Laporte, he can break defenses by passing the ball, and reads the game very well, I’m satisfied with him.
“Akanyi has experience playing. Champions League for years, and we’ve had a lot of players that mightn’t play. Including some people we have to put aside for the next game, so this game we decided to play him.”

Manuel Akanyi has joined Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund for around £17.5m on a contract until 2027.
