Doha: Lucille Stadium, the venue of the World Cup, is preparing to welcome the small Pooram before the big Pooram. Sample Pooram on Friday night in the playground waiting for Vishwa Mela to roll. With access to a total capacity of 80,000 seats, Lucille sets the stage for the changing scene of some of the West’s best clubs.
The night of December 18 is also the opening night of the stadium that will determine the new champions of world football. Al Hilal, the winners of the Saudi Arabian top division league, Pro League, and Al Zamalek, the winners of the Egyptian Premier League, will face each other in a tight match called Lusail Super Cup Football. It is also a day of celebration for the stadium and the city as they prepare to welcome the World Cup.
The Qatar Stars League match was held in August at Lusail Stadium, which had completed all the constructions. 20,000 spectators were admitted to the domestic teams in the Stars League. Last Friday, it was also the venue for the FIFA Volunteer Orientation Program, which was attended by 16,000 people. Now, with full capacity spectators allowed in, the match will be played two days later, creating excitement similar to that of a World Cup match.
Kick-off is at 9pm Qatar time. Before the game, the star presence of the Arabian music world, Amar Diab, has prepared a brilliant musical feast for the audience. Saudi and Egyptian crowds will also flock to Lusail on Friday as the champions of the Arab region’s two most dominant leagues battle it out. The tickets were sold out within a week of going on sale in the third week of August.
