ROHRBACH-BERG. After 32 years, the popular Delphin ice cream parlor at the Haider junction in Rohrbach is now opening a new chapter in the company’s history. The construction of the new Eurospar store in the coming year is also closely related to this.
With the end of the Delphin season at the end of August, an era for Marianne and Klaus Hofmann came to an end: on July 1, 1990, the two opened the restaurant in a former tavern and gradually expanded it to what it is now – or was. Klaus’ sister Kerstin Leitenmüller and her husband Christian have been on board since 2010 and will now lead the “Delphin 2.0”, as the project is jokingly called, into the future. Klaus Hofmann will retire in February.
Moved into transitional quarters
In the meantime, there is no stone left unturned in the Delphin, which will be integrated into the Eurospar site. The whole family helps with clearing out and moving to the transitional quarters just a few meters away, says Marianne Hofmann: “Thank God we got the place. Many still know it as the former ‘flowers Gertraud’ location. There we will probably be able to spoil our guests with our usual and popular, homemade ice cream creations for two seasons.”
Bike shop relocated
The previous restaurant, like that of the Filnkössl bike shop, has to be demolished for the renovation work. The bike shop is also in the middle of moving to the former premises of the Euroline driving school, which has moved from the ground floor to the first floor on Ehrenreiterweg.
demolition work begins
“The existing buildings will be demolished as early as October and then Spar will build a transitional quarter for the market at this point,” says Kerstin Leitenmüller.
This is also confirmed by company spokeswoman Nicole Berkmann from Spar Austria: “The local supply should be maintained at all times during the entire construction phase for the new Eurospar. Therefore, we will start building a temporary sales office in autumn. In 2023 we will start construction work on the new Eurospar. The people of Rohrbach can look forward to a very modern new Eurospar.”
outlook
When everything is finished, the people of Rohrbach get “their” dolphin back at the usual location. A modern ice cream parlor will be built there, which will score with the guests with more seats than the old restaurant and with a beautiful, covered outdoor dining area. Together with the Spar market and the planned, large underground car park, a large complex with a courtyard character is being built. The Hofmann and Leitenmüller families owe the fact that everything went so well, not least to the former homeowner Renate Laschitz, who was particularly committed to keeping the ice cream parlor at the site. “But we also had a very good atmosphere in which to talk to Spar and the municipality and are certain that we have found the best solution for the municipality, Spar and us,” the operators are pleased.
The roundregarding
The roundregarding that is to be built at the Haider crossing will probably only be implemented towards the end of the construction work. “From our point of view, it is still a little too early to be able to say anything concrete,” says the community room.
