Bad effects of “sitting” more than you can imagine
In my laboratory, we conducted a 6-week follow-up survey on the mental changes of “stressful students” who were preparing for final exams.Exercise can prevent stress-induced depressionWe have proven that.
At the beginning of the study, none of the students had a mental illness and did not exercise. The study randomly assigned these students to one of three groups.
★ Sitting: Sedentary for 6 weeks
★ Moderate intensity continuous training (MICT) group: Ride a bike for 30 minutes at moderate intensity 3 times a week for 6 weeks
* High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) Groups: Repeat 1 minute high intensity and 1 minute low intensity 3 times a week for 6 weeks for a total of 20 minutes (HIIT training was set slightly shorter than MICT training according to workload. and cool down time)
During six weeks of stress,The sedentary group was so depressed that their mental symptoms warranted a clinical diagnosis.This is shocking considering they have no history of mental illness.
Exercise can prevent depression
The exercise group, on the other hand, was protected despite being exposed to the same psychological stressors as the sedentary students.Neither the MICT nor HIIT groups found stress induced depression.It is. However, the students who took MICT ended up feeling less stressed.
In addition to highlighting that mental health is undermined by chronic stress, the study also highlights that exercise can help prevent stress-related depression.
