New Delhi: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar held a meeting with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi regarding opposition unity. The meeting was held at Rahul’s residence on Tughlaq Road, Delhi. National media reported that Nitish said that the post of Prime Minister is not his goal. “There is an organized effort to weaken the regional parties. Efforts are being made to unite the opposition before the general elections. He also said that he does not intend to promote himself as the prime ministerial candidate.

Nitish is also trying to meet Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Janata Dal S leader HD Kumaraswamy, NCP leader Sharad Pawar and CPM General Secretary Sitaram Yachuri.

Nitish wants a Bihar model broad alliance with Congress and regional parties. Earlier, RJD president Lalu Prasad had reached Yadav’s residence and had a discussion. Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav also participated in the discussion. RJD’s position is that there should not be a third front excluding the Congress. The RJD is of the view that a third front is impractical, ignoring the fact that the Congress and the BJP are in direct competition in the Lok Sabha elections in around two hundred constituencies.
