Rains in Niger: 103 dead and 140,000 victims since June

Heavy rains in Niger since June have claimed 103 lives and affected more than 140,000, with more expected by the end of September, authorities in the usually dry country said on Monday.

The flood situation as of September 4, 2022 is as follows: a total of 103 people have died, including 74 in the collapse of their homes and 29 by drowning, while 140,029 are affected and 125 injured, according to figures from the Civil Protection services communicated to AFP on Monday.

A previous official report of August 28 reported 75 dead, 108,346 victims and 102 injured.
