Typhoon Hinnamno, Japan’s northern Kyushu, a strong wind forecast to overturn a power pole… Comprehensive evacuation orders for residents

12m in height… Risk of flooding due to tsunami and high wave heights
Up to 300mm of rain expected by noon tomorrow
Emergency, such as suspension of the Hakata-Hiroshima Shinkansen in northern Kyushu on the 6th

Tensions are rising in the area as Typhoon Hinnamno, the 11th typhoon, is expected to pass through Okinawa and approach northern Kyushu in southwestern Japan from the night of the 5th to the morning of the 6th.

Local governments are issuing evacuation orders one following another, centering on the Kyushu area where typhoons are approaching.

The Japan Meteorological Agency announced that Hinnamno was heading north at 20km/h in the East China Sea west of Kyushu at 1pm on the 5th.

Hinnamno passed the vicinity of Miyakojima, west of the main island of Okinawa the night before, and was heading north toward the Korean Peninsula.

At this time, the central pressure of Hinnamno is 950 hPa (hectopascals), and strong winds with a maximum wind speed of 40 m/s and a maximum instantaneous wind speed of 60 m/s are blowing near the center of the typhoon.

Currently, Amamio Island, which is halfway between the main island of Okinawa and Kyushu, and parts of southern Kyushu and northern Kyushu are located in areas with strong winds.

Local broadcaster NHK reported that “As the typhoon approaches, strong winds are expected to blow over power poles or blow off the exterior walls of buildings in Yamaguchi Prefecture, which is located in northern Kyushu or the western end of Honshu.”

Until the 6th, the maximum instantaneous wind speed of 60 m/s is expected in northern Kyushu, 45 m/s in Yamaguchi Prefecture, and 35 m/s in southern Kyushu.

When the maximum instantaneous wind speed is 30 to 40 m/s, it is difficult to drive a car at normal speed, and it is difficult for a person to stand without holding on to something, and there is a risk of being injured by flying objects.

If the speed exceeds 40 m/s, the truck in motion may overturn and the wind can peel off the metal roof coverings of buildings that are not properly secured.

Also, due to the typhoon, the wave height of the sea around northern Kyushu was predicted to be 12 m and 10 m in southern Kyushu and Yamaguchi Prefecture.

A tsunami is expected to occur in some areas in western Japan, and inundation may occur in coastal areas due to tsunami and high waves.

In northern Kyushu and Yamaguchi Prefecture, rain clouds developed from the night of the 5th to the morning of the 6th, and the risk of disaster was expected to be high.

The expected precipitation for 24 hours until noon on the 6th is 300 mm in southern Kyushu and Shikoku, 250 mm in northern Kyushu, and 200 mm in Yamaguchi Prefecture.

Local governments in Kyushu have been issuing evacuation orders one following another since this followingnoon.

Kohoku-machi, Saga Prefecture, issued a warning level 4, the fourth highest among 5 levels of heavy rain warning level, at 3 pm, instructing residents to evacuate.

Kohoku-machi ordered all 9,600 people from 3,614 households in the city to evacuate from dangerous places.

Ibusuki City in Kagoshima Prefecture, Izuka City in Fukuoka Prefecture, and Kijocho Town in Miyazaki Prefecture have issued Alert Level 3 and advised seniors to evacuate to a safe place.

Alert level 3 is the third highest among five levels, and it recommends that the elderly and people with disabilities start evacuating and other residents prepare to evacuate.

As the typhoon approached, JR West canceled the Shinkansen service linking Hakata and Hiroshima in northern Kyushu from the first train to the evening of the 6th.

JR Kyushu suspended the service between Hakata and Kumamoto in central Kyushu from the first train on the 6th.

The Japan Meteorological Agency has urged people to be on alert for storms, high waves, tsunamis, landslides, flooding of low-lying areas, and river flooding, and beware of lightning strikes and strong gusts of wind.

Previously, in Okinawa prefecture due to the typhoon, four people were injured as elderly people fell in the wind until the previous day, and 6,340 households in Miyakojima, Taramason, and Ishigaki were cut off.
