Fight against spotted wing drosophila

Red wine varieties such as Blauer Zweigelt and St. Laurent are particularly at risk, but other varieties such as Muskateller and Sauvignon Blanc can also be affected by cherry vinegar. Plants with injured berries (hailstorm, oidium, botrytis, etc.) can also have an increased incidence of the spotted-wing drosophila in other varieties.

An approved remedy with an efficient effect is SpinTor. The product has a waiting period of 14 days and can also be used for organic farms and farms that do not use insecticides (if permitted by association guidelines). However, it must be taken into account that SpinTor is dangerous to bees and has a low resistance to rain.

Karate Zeon was admitted this year until September 30, 2022 at the latest. It may be applied at most once a year and only in the grape zone (application rate 75 ml/ha). It is possible to add a wetting agent. The product is dangerous to bees, does not protect beneficial insects and the waiting period is seven days.

Flowering vegetation should be mulched before treatment with SpinTor or Karate Zeon. The funds may only be used in the evening or morning hours outside of the bee flight time. Preventive treatments in systems without cherry drosophila infestation are ineffective and promote the development of resistance. In principle, both agents can be combined with Kumar. A maximum concentration of 0.8 to 1% should be used, a maximum of 5 kg/ha should be applied and no wetting agent should be added. The waiting time is one day. With SpinTor, however, a solo application is recommended.
