(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Lee Eui-jin = “I always think that the left foot is the best in the K-League. I think it showed as a result.”

Lee Ki-je (31), left fullback of Suwon Samsung, a professional soccer player, did not hide his pride in his kicking ability while looking back on his recent performance in a phone call with Yonhap News on the 5th.

Because he led FC Seoul to victory in the ‘Super Match’ the day before with his kick, Lee Ki-je’s voice was full of confidence.

Suwon won 3-1 in the rivalry once morest Seoul, which was held at the hostile Seoul World Cup Stadium on the 4th.

Suwon, who scored two goals in the first half and grabbed the victory early, drove their opponents into the second half, winning the last three consecutive Super Matches.

Oh Hyun-gyu, who scored multiple goals, was selected as the official distinguished player, but Lee Ki-je’s ‘left foot’ was also a brilliant match.

In the 27th minute of the first half, Lee Ki-je on the left flank received a long pass from the other side with his chest and crossed it non-stop.

While the opposing goalkeeper and defender did not react to the one-beat play, this cross was accurately delivered to Oh Hyun-gyu in the penalty area. Hyungyu Oh stretched out his right foot and gently pushed the ball into the goal.

When asked, ‘Is it true that he was kicked following seeing Hyungyu Oh?’, Lee Ki-je said, “If I hadn’t seen it, I wouldn’t have kicked it,” he laughed.

Oh Hyun-gyu also scored an additional goal for Ahn Byung-jun four minutes later. This time, a cross from the right flank hit Ahn Byung-jun’s head and shook the net.

Lee Ki-je said, “After training, Byeong-jun and I practice a lot separately.”

Perhaps thanks to the effect of such individual training, Lee Ki-je’s left foot has become particularly sharp recently.

In the last 4 games including the Super Match on the 4th, only 5 assists were provided, and all of these assists are left-footed crosses.

During the home game once morest Seongnam FC on the 14th of last month, a left corner kick and a cross raised near the right touchline, respectively, hit the heads of Go Myeong-seok and Oh Hyun-gyu, leading to the opening goal and additional goals.

In the home match once morest Gangwon FC on the 27th of the same month, Ahn Byung-jun scored a cross that was handed over near the left penalty box in the 5th minute of the second half, when it was drawn 0-2.

Ki-Je Lee delivered an accurate cross to the head of his teammate every time the opportunity came.

Lee Ki-jae explained, “When I try to cross, of course, I may not be able to put it.

While introducing ‘Courier Cross’ every day, the number of help Lee Ki-je has now reached nine.

The assist ranking also surpassed Shin Jin-ho (Pohang, 8) and climbed to second place. There are two differences from Kim Dae-won (11) of Gangwon-do.

Lee Ki-je said, “Before the season, my goal was to have 10 attack points, but once I achieved that goal (1 goal and 9 assists), I am determined to add 5 more attack points now.”

He added, “I was selected in the Best 11 list last year, and another goal is to be selected in a row this year.”

Lee Ki-jae reiterated that he was more than happy to win the Supermatch for the first time this season.

He said, “At the start of the season, I said that I wanted to win as much as FC Seoul on Media Day, but it was hard until yesterday’s game,” he said.

Before the Super Match, the Suwon club hung a banner made by fans on the wall of the visiting team’s locker room instead of the club’s own placard. The slogan ‘We never give up’ was written on this banner on a white background.

Immediately following the match, Lee Ki-je shared a picture of the players holding the banner together on social media.

Lee Ki-je said, “I was very moved by the fans’ support in yesterday’s game. He also prepared a banner, and even though it was an away trip, I heard a lot of voices during the game.”

He continued, “It’s not a high ranking yet, but I hope that many of you will come to the remaining Gyeonggi-do.”
