More than 14,000 people at the 21st Schubertiade

The 21st Espace 2 Schubertiade ended on Sunday with a gratifying success: in two days, the classical music festival which took place this year in Friborg attracted more than 14,000 people. The 160 concerts were almost all sold out.

Saturday morning’s wet weather did not stop the public from coming to attend the many concerts performed by a thousand musicians and spread over sixteen venues. “A crazy energy has filled our magnificent city with music, true Friborg DNA”, according to Laurent Dietrich, vice-syndic of the City of Fribourg, quoted Sunday in the press release from the RTS.

The concerts took place outdoors and in halls. Many spectators did not hesitate to listen standing up to their favorite piece. This year, the festival targeted young audiences. The concerts were short, generally lasting 45 minutes. The Concert of Young Swiss Talents brought together 300 lovers of the violin and the cello, at the Temple of Fribourg.

popular event

The Schubertiade is also a popular celebration: nearly 4,000 people sang Schubert’s German Mass in choir on Sunday in the courtyard of the Collège Saint-Michel under the baton of Pascal Mayer.

The festival, which generally takes place every two years, is relayed by Espace 2 of the RTS. More than thirty hours of music were broadcast live. The programs are also relayed on Rete Due and Radio SRF 2 Kultur, as well as on RTR.
