Should you get your booster dose now or wait for the new vaccine?

A few days following the approval of the new bivalent vaccine adapted to the Omicron variant, many are wondering if they should now receive their booster dose once morest COVID or wait for this new injection.

“There’s no point in waiting. Ideally, what you need to do is increase your immunity as quickly as possible, ”believes retired virologist Jacques Lapierre.

He therefore recommends, in an interview with LCN, “to go with the vaccine that is available”.

“If we add a booster, we bring our immunity back to 80-85%, which is excellent, and then if we go with the new vaccine, well this 80-85% there will perhaps go up to 90 %, so we cannot say that it is a huge difference”, supports the retired virologist.

Although it is preferable to receive your booster dose as quickly as possible, according to Jacques Lapierre, the new bivalent vaccine will, when it becomes available, make it possible to develop antibodies once morest the variants of COVID.

“By adding the Omicron, we add characteristics of the new lines of virus that have arrived, the new variants, and at that point, we cover these variants a little better, so we bring antibodies into our immunity directly once morest these variants,” explains the specialist.

The latter recognizes, however, that it is difficult to follow the evolution of the virus in the manufacture of vaccines “because it is going too fast”.
