Game news The Last of Us, Bioshock… 7 action video games that don’t have a final boss

In the world of video games, there have been a plethora of outstanding final bosses, good or bad (Elden Ring, Hollow Knight, Resident Evil…). But some have especially shone by their absence. Here are seven action video games that surprisingly don’t have an actual end boss.
Bioshock 2
Bioshock made an impression with its particularly memorable ending. If the boss following the final revelation did not have as much flavor as the latter, there was still a good way to end the game in style. Strangely, Bioshock 2 did not follow this pattern, and this despite some well-thought-out bosses throughout the game. The last fight is indeed to survive Lamb’s last assault which sends a whole slew of Splicers on you. You don’t have the pleasure of killing the vile Sofia Lamb, instead finding yourself a mere spectator of her death. A most frustrating situation that repeats itself in Bioshock Infinite. The last fight is indeed to shoot down an airship and not to defeat a powerful enemy face-to-face.
Fallout 3
If the Fallout series had accustomed us to dynamic boss fights once morest emblematic villains (The Master and Frank Horrigan in particular), its third opus, Fallout 3, left some people with a bitter taste in their mouths. The final mission does not offer any big bad guys to take down. You’ll be able to take it out on a few opponents, sure, but no final boss in sight. Worse still, the game does not end once victory is achieved. To obtain the end credits, you will indeed have to make a tough and irreversible choice (well, until the arrival of the Broken Steel DLC.)
Halo : Combat Evolved
The Halo franchise offers a plethora of enemies to kill without further ado. What might be better than a license like this to offer epic end bosses as possible? Well, that’s not Bungie’s choice for the first installment of its flagship franchise: Halo : Combat Evolved. The studio even went further than a simple lack of a final boss. After killing hundreds of enemies, the game does indeed end on… an escape scene. You even find yourself ignoring the enemies around you so you can save yourselves and leave the planet you’re on. Funny ending for an action game.
If there is one end of the game that has raised questions, it is that of Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain. Episode 46, explicitly named “Truth”, left more than one player perplexed. This is mainly due to the fact that it questions most of the things players thought they knew, but not only… For a franchise that has accustomed us to breathtaking duels, ce Metal Gear Solid V : Phantom Pain does not offer a final boss in the true sense of the term. The only difficult thing you will face? The truth.
Mirror’s Edge
If the bulk of Mirror’s Edge consists of doing parkour on colored walls and roofs, the game of Dice and Electronic Arts still offers us some action scenes and in particular bosses to defeat. Ropeburn and Celeste paid the price, although calling them bosses is debatable. But the great antagonist of Mirror’s Edge, Jacknife, definitely can’t be called “end boss”. If you do chase him at the end of the game, all it takes is a kick to see him fall out of a helicopter. As the death of a big bad, we have seen more striking it is true.
The Last of Us Part II
Unlike its predecessor, The Last of Us Part II chose to offer several 1v1 fights akin to boss fights. Certainly, we might see in the Colossus and in David some kind of boss, but these phases took on a whole new importance with duels like those once morest powerful infected or Abby (which is why we chose it here). But surprisingly, the players did not have the right to a real final fight between Abby and Ellie. If the two protagonists clash at the end of the game, it is in a very different way and the conclusion is not really what some would have hoped for. The final boss fight they expected didn’t quite happen.
Wolfenstein 2 : The New Colossus
If Wolfenstein: The New Order made us sweat with General Deathshead (Wilhelm Strasse), Wolfenstein II : The New Colossus didn’t bother with a final boss. No long phase of duel once morest the horrible Frau Iren Engel who certainly perishes by your hand, but not following a fight in good and due form. Let’s admit that seeing her with a small ax in the head is still satisfying. But to end this long epic, we might have expected a more striking end and a more grueling fight, like what the franchise had accustomed us to so far.
