The creators of the Bob dishwasher are back at the IFA in Berlin. The little princes of French Tech are taking advantage of the show to present their latest innovation: a multifunction oven called Joe. The goal is, once once more, to make the most of the kitchen space.
Joe was designed in the same vein as Bob. With its chubby but compact silhouette, the portable oven is designed for small spaces. At present, it is only a prototype, although its founders hope to complete the project. This is why there are no precise technical characteristics yet, Joe being still in full evolution.
And it’s not a won bet. Its manufacturers want it to be multifunctional, in order to limit the number of appliances present in the kitchen. Joe will therefore be able to perform the role of toaster, grill, oil-free fryer, microwave (without turntable) and steam oven. Yes, yes, Joe is a multitasker.
The creators of Joe are still hesitant regarding its interface and the different cooking modes available. The track considered would consist of integrating preconfigured cooking programs, as well as a manual mode. The user might for example select “chicken” to transform the device into a deep fryer without oil heating at 180°C. But for more flexibility, the cook would also be able to fine-tune
temperature and cooking method.
At present, two resistors are fitted to the oven: the first is placed at the top of the cavity and the second at the bottom. A fan accompanies the latter to ensure the rotating heat function. This configuration saves it a few centimeters in depth, which therefore requires a worktop with standard dimensions. An alternative is being considered by Daan Technologies, the makers: installing some components on top of the oven. Joe would then gain overweight in height, but the user might save space in depth. Nothing is decided yet.
Above all, the designers of Joe want an ecological product. Its 20 l capacity cavity, obviously smaller than a traditional oven, preheats faster and is more economical than the latter. Its multifunction profile also reduces the consumption of household appliances. Finally, just like Bob, Joe will be easily repairable; this is what its founders assure us. This is because the components of the dishwasher are already easily accessible online, which makes the appliance more durable.
As we said, Joe is only at the prototype stage, but the output of the oven is planned by 2024. A new production plant must also be opened in Nantes to intensify production. No price is yet communicated.
