A group of Indian ninth-grade students tied their teacher and a school employee to a tree on Monday and beat them in retaliation for failing grades following a practical exam, local media report.

Mathematics teacher Suman Kumar and employee Soneram Chaure, from a school in Jharkhand state, reported that they were tied up and beaten on the instructions of the principal. The “angry” students also broke a chair during the incident. The report once morest the director and 11 students was duly recorded, said Nityanand Bhokta, head of the local police.

The students complained to school district officials at the scene that the teacher had unfairly given them very low grades on the exam. This caused 11 of them, out of a total of 36, to fail the subject. In addition, he did not give them any explanation, and then the director and Chaure refused to attend to his claim.

For his part, Suman Kumar explained that the students called them to hold a meeting and complained that their grades did not correspond to what they had done. “This happened because his marks on the road test were not included in the final results. That had to be done by the director. So we mightn’t take any action on it,” the professor explained.
