Camille Balanche has won the general classification of the Downhill World Cup! The Neuchâteloise finished in 5th place in the last event of the season which took place in Val di Sole in Italy.
Victim of a broken collarbone 1 month ago, Camille Balanche won the time trial which allowed her to defend her chances for this final test. After wisely skipping qualifying, she managed the race she was hoping for.
In 4’32”41, she certainly remained 10” from the French Myriam Nicole, who won this descent. But above all, she picked up enough points to always be ahead of the Austrian Valentina Höll, 3rd in Val di Sole, and the main threat in the general classification.
Camille Balanche (32) has shown remarkable consistency throughout the season by winning 3 events and finishing twice 2nd and once 3rd out of the 8 events that the season included. She is the first Swiss woman to win the general classification of the Downhill World Cup.
