Striking Distance Studios CEO posts, then deletes, a tweet that some believe promotes crisis culture

Striking Distance Studios founder Glen Schofield deleted a tweet that some saw promoted a “crisis” culture in game development.

In a tweet posted earlier today, Schofield – whose team is currently working on the upcoming sci-fi horror The Callisto Protocol – talked regarding working 12-15 hours a day, six to seven days a week, and working through lunch and dinner, justifying this by saying: You do it because you love him.”

“I’m only talking regarding the game at an event,” Schofield said in a since-deleted tweet. “we [are] We work six to seven days a week, no one forces us to.

He continues, “We are exhausted, tired, hungry, but we are working.” Bugs, glitches, and performance fixes. A final pass in the audio. 12-15 hours a day. It’s games. hard work. Business lunch, and dinner. You do it because you love it.”

Journalist Jason Shearer took a screenshot of the tweet before it was deleted, adding:

“This, from the studio head, is defined by the culture of crisis. Of course, no one is ‘forced’ to work crazy hours. But imagine the reduced rewards and lack of promotion opportunities if you don’t.” You’re doing it because you love it’ armed passion that’s why people burn in the game.

“It is such a strange coincidence that the guy brags regarding how his team works 6-7 days a week 12-15 hours a day because they also love it is the guy who controls all their salaries, titles and current job status,” he added in a subsequent tweet.

In related news, David Cage replied recently to me Allegations of unhealthy studio culture and inappropriate behavior in Quantic Dreamwhich was previously called a “smear campaign”.

“I don’t think we have an aggressive stance,” he said. “When you get accused of things that go once morest everything you believe in, everything you’ve done in your life, it hurts. It’s more than just attacking studio culture.
