BRUSSELS 03/09 (BELGIAN)
The emergency services had been called by this individual, who was in a condition requiring treatment. The SIAMU and one of its injured paramedics will file a complaint with civil action.
“We received, this Saturday shortly before 11:00 a.m., a call for a man in his thirties, living in Schaerbeek, who had a health problem. When one of our teams arrived on site, they were confronted to an individual who was not at all cooperative,” said Walter Derieuw, spokesperson for SIAMU in Brussels.
“Our paramedics decided to request assistance from a Mobile Emergency and Resuscitation Service (SMUR). This medical team tried to infuse the patient, but he pushed everyone away. They then tried to rather make him inhale a painkiller. He then threw all the equipment of the SMUR on the ground”, continued the spokesperson.
“The individual pushed everyone away once more, he made death threats and scratched a paramedic until he bled on the chest, ripping off his polo shirt. Our colleague also received his finger in the eye. He has a corneal injury. He was taken to Saint-Pierre hospital for treatment,” explained Walter Derieuw. “The police then intervened to subdue the aggressive man.”
The Brussels SIAMU and the injured paramedic will file a complaint in this case and file a civil action with the Brussels public prosecutor’s office, announced the SIAMU.
