India’s first indigenously built aircraft carrier INS Vikrant has become part of the Navy. The commission was commissioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Kochi on Friday. With this, India became the sixth country to have the capability to design and build its own aircraft carrier
On the occasion, the Prime Minister received a guard of honor of naval personnel. Chief of Navy Admiral R Harikumar and Cochin Shipyard CMD Madhu S Nair spoke. The Commanding Officer of the ship Captain Vidyadhar Harke read out the commissioning warrant. On reaching Vikrant’s flight deck, the Prime Minister took the soldiers’ salute. After that, the new flag of the Navy was hoisted.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Ports Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Minister of State Ajay Bhatt, Governor Arif Mohammad Khan, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Vice Chief of Naval Staff Vice Admiral SN Gormade and Chief of the Southern Naval Command Vice Admiral MA Hampi Holi participated.
Union Minister of State Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Kerala Industries Minister P Rajeev, Hib Eden MP, MLAs KJ Maxey, TJ Vinod, Kochi Mayor M Anilkumar, GCDA Chairman K Chandranpillai and others attended the function.
The MiG-29K was the first to take off
Russian-made MiG-29K fighter jet takes off for the first time on board INS Vikrant. The aircraft will be specially designed for the Navy. The Navy will test things like taking off, landing and refueling aircraft from the ship. The planes will be flown by naval aviator trainers at this stage. Later Navy pilots and trainees.
Seeking helicopters and advanced light helicopters were also landed at Vikrant. Vikrant will be taken to INS Hansa Naval Air Station in Goa for final trials. Under the Western Naval Command, the fighter jets will be tested for a year. By November next year, it can be fully used in the battlefield.

Fighter jets salute
Dedication of INS Vikrant as excitement for the nation. After Prime Minister Narendra Modi hoisted the flag on the ship’s deck, soldiers paid homage to INS Vikrant in helicopters and fighter jets. The first to arrive were three Chetak helicopters with the new Navy flag. Then came Sea King helicopters, P-8 aircraft and MiG-29 fighter jets.
Apart from Navy and Shipyard officials, a large crowd including people and students had reached the inauguration venue.
Family members from various centers of the Navy, ex-servicemen and erstwhile INS Vikrant arrived. Shipyard officials were also present. After the ceremony, most of them went to the deck of the ship and returned with pictures.
