Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN)– Jared Kushner, son-in-law of former US President Donald Trump and advisor in the White House, considered that what Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and his father, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, did in fighting extremism “dramatically changed the world.”
In an interview with “Sky News”, Kushner touched on his relationship with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, when he was an advisor to the former US president, as well as the case of the murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul in 2018.
In response to a question regarding his comfort in the presence of Mohammed bin Salman, Kushner said: “Very comfortable.” And whether he thought regarding the murder of Khashoggi and the role of the crown prince, Kushner said that “there was a lot of thought clearly and I wrote regarding it in my memoirs,” noting that he also wrote regarding his discussions with Prince Mohammed bin Salman on this subject in his memoirs.
“But our job is to represent America’s interests in the region, and if you look at the biggest issue in 2016, ISIS had a caliphate the size of Ohio and was slaughtering journalists and killing Christians,” he added.
Kushner noted that he wrote in his memoirs, Breaking History, regarding the controversy that took place in the White House regarding Trump’s first foreign visit to Saudi Arabia, and said that “people at first thought that they would not change their ways, and that there was a lot of tolerance or even encouragement for Islamic extremism, and some of the preachers were They go to places of worship to push young people towards extremism.”
He added, “But the work that Mohammed bin Salman and his father, King Salman, did to purify mosques and try to get rid of some of these bad elements and fight Islamic extremism changed the world dramatically and made us all safer.”
