In the summer of 2020, Alexander Nübel moved from FC Schalke 04 to Bayern on a free transfer. However, the goalkeeper only stayed with the record champions for one season and was then loaned out to AS Monaco for two years. Recently, reports have been circulating that the Munich team is extending the contract with the 25-year-old. His advisor has now confirmed that the Bayern bosses are planning long-term with Nübel.
Alexander Nübel was once committed as a challenger and designated successor to Manuel Neuer. However, the FCB captain is still untouchable in Munich and, even at 36, is one of the best goalkeepers in the world. How long the German national player can maintain his top level is open. Those responsible in Munich are already preparing for the time following Neuer and are relying on Nübel.
“The way at FC Bayern is clearly mapped out”
The “kicker” recently reported that they would like to extend the ex-Schalke player’s contract in the long term. His advisor Stefan Backs has now confirmed that the people of Munich are still convinced of Nübel: “Bayern have made it clear that Alex belongs to the next generation. You make plans with him. They have communicated this clearly, both externally and internally. The way at FC Bayern is clearly mapped out. Something would have to happen for the plan not to be implemented,” he said in an interview with “Sky”.
According to Backs, a return to Munich is only an option for Nübel if he plays regularly. A backup role behind Neuer is no longer an option: “Alex rules that out. And it doesn’t make sense for either Alex or Bayern. He’s too good for the bank, so conflicts are inevitable.”
Nübel makes Bavaria’s future dependent on Neuer’s whereregardings
Neuer is contractually bound to Bayern until 2024 and only recently extended his contract. Another commitment over the summer of 2024 would be a reason for Nübel to leave FCB permanently: “Should FC Bayern extend the contract with Manuel Neuer once more in the long term, Alex will probably have to take a different path. But all parties are interested in Alex becoming number one at Bayern Munich.”
Nübel himself is tied to the record champions until 2025 and is loaned to Monaco until the end of the season.
