[KNS뉴스통신=노지철 기자] Jinju City Public Health Center urged citizens to follow mosquito repellent and control tips to avoid being bitten by Japanese encephalitis mosquitoes.
Japanese encephalitis is an acute viral infectious disease caused by an infection of the human body during the process of biting a human by a small mosquito infected with the Japanese encephalitis virus.
When bitten by mosquitoes carrying the Japanese encephalitis virus, 99% are asymptomatic or have mild symptoms accompanied by fever, but some progress to acute encephalitis, which can lead to death in 20-30%.
Accordingly, public health centers are strengthening quarantine activities in all areas of Eup, Myeon, and dong, and are promoting diversified quarantine activities, such as carrying out larvae control in rice fields and puddles where Japanese encephalitis vector mosquitoes inhabit.
The public health center guides children aged 12 months to 12 years old who are eligible for the Japanese encephalitis national vaccination support to be vaccinated according to the standard schedule.
An official from Bogonso, Jinju City, said, “90% of reported Japanese encephalitis patients are over 40 years of age.
